Military bunkers

The museum will offer visitors an insight into the vast and little-known world of air defence in Czechoslovakia, from the Cold War period to Slovakia’s accession to NATO. It will explain how an anti-aircraft missile brigade unit operated as a whole, from the missiles, transporters, radars, and individual structures, through to the process of engaging in combat operations. The exhibition will be located on the highest hill in Bratislava, Devínska Kobyla, directly within the firing position of the 6th Unit of the 186th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade (later the 37th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade). It will be less than 200 metres from the observation tower, in a hardened shelter for a P-15 surveillance radar. Because of the unusual hilltop location of the base, the museum building itself is the only one of its kind in Czechoslovakia, built exclusively for use with a radar antenna on a mast. This antenna will be visible in its original position, just as it was when it protected Bratislava’s skies. In addition, visitors will be able to see numerous models of military vehicles and photographs, as well as videos and films that will be screened regularly. Schoolchildren will have the option of visiting as part of school lessons or civil-defence exercises.
