Unsuccessful escape

In mid-August 1966, Pavel N. (42) went for a walk in the Austrian village of Kittsee. During this walk, he was gradually getting closer to the Czechoslovak state border and the nearby Jarovce city borough. He was taking photographs while walking, and this led him to the very edge of the Bažantnica forest. It was here at 11:30 a.m. that Pavel N. was detained by a two-man border guard patrol. After preliminary questioning, the photographs were developed and showed his walk from Kittsee in Austria up to the Bažantnica forest near Jarovce in Slovakia. The remarkable view of the Iron Curtain from the Austrian side was preserved thanks to this incident.
