One of the most interesting cases of illegal crossing of the state border took place on 29 June 1955 in the winter harbour of Bratislava. On that day, a corpse of a man was discovered at the area of the 1866th river kilometre by a two-man foot patrol of the Bratislava River Unit. There would have been nothing special about this case except that the body was dressed in a special rubber suit – a diver suit. This suit was intended for crossing the border by crawling on the bottom of the Danube River from Austria to Bratislava. Attached to the sleeves of the diver suit were a special waterproof light and a compass.
