Devínska Nová Ves

Killed

Late at night, a border guard patrol was passing by the railway bridge in Devínská Nová Ves. It was a warm summer evening. Their task was to supervise the three-walled, high-voltage wire barrier. On 22 July 1956 at 11:50 p.m., one of the patrol members observed flashes at the wire barrier caused by a short circuit in the electrical border protection equipment. After arriving at the site of flashes, the patrol found a motionless body of a 28-year-old Polish miner, František L. His body was buried without ceremony at the cemetery in Devínska Nova Ves.
