The small town of Marchegg nestled on the Austrian side of the Morava River is home to the biggest white stork colony in Europe. It consists of approximately 50 stork nests. The fact that it is a tree-nesting colony makes it unique, as storks usually build their nests on chimneys or utility poles. You can find many beautiful walking trails here. Take your children on a cycling trip from Devínska Nová Ves in Bratislava over the Freedom Cycling Bridge, around Schloss Hof Palace all the way to Marchegg and introduce them to the details of storks’ lives. History buffs should visit the Baroque Marchegg Palace, which houses a hunting museum.
