Stillfried is one of the oldest inhabited villages in Lower Austria. The Prehistoric and Early History Museum showcases artefacts from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, the Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages. The compound with archaeological finds houses tools and weapons of mammoth hunters, everyday objects and jewellery. It is proud to display the famous “cup from Stillfried”, a bronze bowl that was probably used to drink from or to scoop wine. Vine seeds from the Bronze age were discovered here, so the fact that it is the oldest winemaking village in Austria does not come as a surprise.
