Dürnkrut is renowned for the fateful battle between Rudolf I of Habsburg and Ottakar II of Bohemia that took place in 1278. It brought in the long-lasting rule of the Habsburg dynasty that influenced the history of Central Europe. A memorial stone documenting this event is located directly in the historic battlefield between Dürnkrut and Jedenspeigen. It is a 6 metre tall granite stone created in 1978 by the sculptor Carl Hermann.
