Marchegg Palace

Marchegg Palace was originally a part of a town fortification founded by Ottokar II of Bohemia in the Middle Ages. It was a water castle that was rebuilt into a hunting château during Baroque. It is considered the most famous Palffy residence in Austria. They used it as their summer and hunting residence. After the formation of the Czechoslovak Republic, Marchegg became the permanent abode of the Palffy family from Malacky. Nowadays, it houses an exhibition about Ottokar II of Bohemia and the period when the Palffy family resided in the palace. The palace is surrounded by a park that connects to the riparian forests and an educational trail.
